In fact, there is an interesting pattern of actresses garnering Oscar nominations for playing hookers-with-hearts-of-gold, including Helen Hayes, Julia Roberts, Elisabeth Shue, and Mira Sorivino. Film scholar Molly Haskell calls Hollywood’s obsession with prostitute figures, “hooker chic.”
