London’s Donmar Warehouse’s 2011 revival of “Anna Christie,” featuring Jude Law and Ruth Wilson, achieved the ambiguity that O’Neill so fervently believed should define the play. The story of a prostitute who is redeemed by the sea and love garnered O’Neill his second Pulitzer for this fresh and sympathetic portrait of a young woman who is violated and abandoned. Directed by Rob Ashford, the production achieved critical acclaim and won the 2012 Olivier Award for Best Revival and Ruth Wilson won for Best Actress.
