Lois Weber’s 1916 film Where Are My Children (starring Tyrone Power Sr., the father of 1930’s film heartthrob Tyrone Power) was Universal’s top-grossing film of the year. The film dealt with abortion and birth control, drawing inspiration from activist Margaret Sanger’s obscenity trial. Problematically, the film’s attitude toward birth control adopts a eugenicist viewpoint.
